TODDLER & PRESCHOOLER
Ready For Bed Chart
Getting ready for bed can be a bit challenging for toddlers and preschoolers; they love to be in charge and are also expert procrastinators!
I developed this ready-for-bed chart to help you and your child have a smoother bedtime.
WHO IS THIS CHART FOR?
Your child is over 12 months old.
If you have a tough time getting through your bedtime routine.
Here’s how to prepare your bedtime routine chart…
Print out the bedtime routine pages.
Print the first two pages (the chart) double-sided. The pages with the routine steps should be printed single-sided.
Using a studier paper will ensure the chart lasts a little longer. You can always laminate the chart.
Cut along the dotted lines on the reverse of the cart.
Check out the image on where to cut.
Cut out the images of the steps you include in your bedtime routine.
If your routine is the same each night, you can glue the steps onto your chart. If you have a routine sandwich, use velcro sticky dots to attach the steps of your routine to the chart each evening.
Place a velcro dot under the top line and another at the bottom of each flap (as shown on the image), ensure the velcro meets when the flap is closed.
How to use your bedtime routine chart…
- Decide on the order you would like to do your bedtime routine.
- Stick/velcro the pictures of the steps on your chart.
3. When you have gone through each routine step, close the flap covering the image.
4. Continue through your routine closing each flap.

Tips…
- Ask your child what they want to do as part of their bedtime routine. If they have decided what to do and in what order, they may have a much easier time getting ready for bed.
- Place the chart somewhere your child can easily see it in their bedroom.
- Have your child close each flap.
- After they have closed the flap, ask them what is next.
